time for friends

This summer we had a 50th wedding anniversary to celebrate Good friends of ours have reached that magic number. Our pastor Father Dan came to participate in the  renewal of their vows and bless all who came to wish them well
Both Chris and John have been involved with farming and forestry.  To this day Chris is  helping   her local 4 H tutor young people in the wonders of  gardening.

John worked for our  University forestry Dept. and, he too still remains very involved in his work despite the fact that he is "retired".In their spare time life is focused on their FARM   caring for 3000 berry bushes.Sounds like a lot of sore muscles to me,but, what do I know. What's a party without a cake....Made to look like a slice from a white birch (how sweet is that) the baker  wanted to decorate with pine cones.Pine cones on a white birch??? That must have been what they call "artistic license".The children nixed that idea knowing Dad would have informed them of an "error".

A lesson in square dancing rounded out the event and of course,a good time was had by all as we tried to find the answer to "where did the time go?"                                      ....................said the hobbit

Still knitting...........and you?

Special people in our knitting group Gisele on the left and Sue on  right. Gisele is from France and Sue from Quebec. They both ended up in New England and taught sewing in different towns. Their similar interest brought them together and lucky for us came to stitch and bitch and have been busily knitting for the past year. They have been a great addition. Gisele was unable to come this week due to a minor surgery. Get well quickly !!!!! We miss you.

Sweaters ready for fall ..........Cindy S. mad this gorgeous flecked sweater and did an I cord collar. Something new for many of us. Such an easy trick We are all eager to give this a try.If you want to give it a try ........check out this VIDEO  So many uses for this stitch.
Using up my leftover yarn for these little socks that I love to wear over tights in the chillier months.
As you can see Bitty was checking out my stitching........or did she just want her picture taken?
Ok she's finally bored with me taking pictures of my foot and has moved on.

New the year in my knitting are these little leg warmers for baby wear.

A little ladybug on one end reminds you of what end is down and amuses the child with something new to grab or just look at.
Well that's it for today ........the gardening needs my attention and it has been pretty good to me so I'd better not ignore the calling.........said the hobbit

THE HOBBIT'S GARDEN

I have a few flowers in my garden to lure as many bees as possible.Every once and awhile I just have to snip a few and bring them inside so I can admire there wonder. I thought these looked almost like wax they were so perfect.I have an extra cheese shaker and I just feed the stems through the holes......works for me.
Cucumbers are growing like crazy................really every time I go out there I have to harvest about 10 so, for a family of 2 this is a lot of cucumbers.I've started making refrigerator pickles. I'm seriously thinking of stocking the apartment size fridge in the garage with them.We are awaiting the tomatoes so we can pig out on our favorite sandwich of cukes and tomato slathered with mayo salt and pepper and maybe a basil leaf or two.

They're coming but just not fast enough for us. Ten days of intense heat seems to have affected their progress, so we will be patient for a little longer and try not to pick them before they are ready.

New to the garden this year will be our own dried black beans.Little purple flowers are popping up all over the place leading me to believe that we will have a bountiful harvest.I'll keep you posted as to how they are coming along. Meanwhile I am in the kitchen if you're trying to find me. Probably making refrigerator pickles........said the hobbit
